Grange Farm is a fabulous asset providing the local community with the ideal setting for their leisure, sporting, recreational and educational pursuits. The architectural award winning, Grange Farm Centre, nestles in the heart of the 93-acre site and is an impressive venue for clubs and groups to meet but also affords a panorama of the surrounding vista and vantage point for spectators for a home team, Colebrook Royals Football Club who play on the four football pitches at Grange Farm and on the pitches of the adjoining Chigwell School. In addition to the sports area there is The Pelican Children’s Playground, the Chigwell Meadows a nature reserve with pond & swale and an area of the site which forms part of the Roding Valley Nature Reserve which is maintained for the charity by Essex Wildlife Trust.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Site Manager in the running of the Grange Farm Sports Centre including supervision of other members of staff
Take responsibility for
The maintenance and upkeep the sports turf to a high standard ensuring they are fit for purpose and safe.
All surrounds and landscaped around the sports turf along with tree lines and hedge rows.
For marking out sports pitches in preparation for different sport activities on the GFSC calendar.
Maintaining the grass paths and either side of the tarmac paths on Chigwell Meadows.
Regular inspections of all the above areas and also furniture (goal posts, etc.).
Keeping accurate records and logs of machine maintenance, health and safety on computerised system and any other clerical work agreed with Site Manager.
Regular inspection and maintenance of Pelican Playground.
Litter picking of site and emptying bins on a weekly base
Follow a maintenance plan set out by the Site Manager for the maintenance of Chigwell Meadows and Grange Farm Lane. This may include pond and swale work.
Keep records of materials stocks and order from supplier when required.
Work with Essex Wildlife Trust to enhance the site and deliver educational days.
Use both mechanical and manual machinery in a safe and responsible manor, taking into consideration all health and safety guidelines.
Carry regular maintenance of all machines and insure they are stored securely in designated area, when not in use. Ensure all work areas are kept clean and tidy. Also work with machine maintenance contractors to ensure a comprehensive maintenance program is carried out and logged.
Oversee contractors and suppliers working on the site.
Be involved in the unlocking and locking up of the building and site, setting alarms as and when required and being registered on alarm call out list.
Carry out daily checks of the site to make sure everything is suitable for use by the public.
Experience and Abilities.
Worked in a small team and flexible with working hours. Clearly working in this industry the weather and work load will change depending on the time of year.
You must display a basic knowledge of repairing equipment and machines.
physically fit enough to deal with the manual and physical demands of the job such as the manual handling of deliveries such as bags of material of various weights
You must display a good knowledge of using different sports turf equipment and process/ maintenance.
Understand general health and safety process, legislation and documentation.
A basic understanding of computerised maintenance systems
A knowledge of landscaping and country maintenance could be preferable.
Main Job Requirements and Person Specification
Education/Qualifications/Training:
Obtained an NVQ level 2 or above in green keeping and groundsmanship, or equivalent.
Spraying certificates PA1, 2 and 6 is desirable but not essential
Full, Clean Driving license.
First Aid Cert. (although training will be provided)
Hours of work – 37.5hrs per week
Your normal basic week is Monday to Friday plus weekend work as required;
